Why so Many Motivational Speakers?

Visit the motivational section of any bookstore and you'll find shelf after shelf of materials by dozens of professional motivational speakers. Most promise virtually the same thing - to help you unlock your potential and reach your goal, whether that's weight loss, career changes, or even meeting that certain someone special.

If they all promise pretty much the same thing, how can you tell the difference, and why should you be giving an audience to these motivational speakers? What do they know that you don't?

It's surprising that many people know what they want out of life or what changes they want to make, and some may even know how to achieve these things. But often what they lack is that drive, that push to get them going in the right direction. This is where motivational speakers come into play - they may be able to use just the right words to help you overcome some common reasons for a lack of motivation. Motivational speakers often talk about how fear of failure can paralyze a person. If you're sure that you're going to fail at an endeavor, why waste your time and effort? However, really good motivational speakers can help you address that common fear and set it aside.

Many people fall into a rut of thinking that their life is just a particular way and that's how it's always going to be. If they've been single for a long time, they assume they'll never find anyone special. If they've always been stuck at a crummy, dead-end job, they think that's all they deserve. Good motivational speakers will help you get around this thinking and help you differentiate between what you've always had and what you really want. They can help you really picture yourself achieving that goal or making that change, which is so important in taking the steps necessary to do just that.

One of the ways to decide which motivational speakers may be right for you is to consider if they're giving you good, practical advice that you can really apply every day, or if they're just repeating useless phrases over and over again. When you hear one speak or read their books, do they really help you get moving and help you achieve your goal? Or do they simply make you enthused for a few hours or days, without any real help after that? Enthusiasm toward your goals is important, and motivational speakers know this, but it will only take you so far. For your enthusiasm to make any difference, it can only be part of your plan.

So motivational speakers can do a lot of good to help you put one foot in front of the other on your way to your goals, if you find the right one and follow their advice for the long run.
