Learning How to Motivate Yourself

It can be very difficult to learn how to motivate yourself. It is however something that can be taught as long as you are open to knowing the tips on knowing how. The motivation is already inside of you, you just have to find it and allow yourself to listen to it.

It doesn’t matter what goal you are trying to achieve, or why you need the motivation, you must be able to overcome the “I can’t do it” attitude and listen to the motivating voice that says “Yes I can.”

Learning how to motivate yourself means that you have to shut out the negative thoughts and feelings about the challenges you face. It is easy to give up, but it isn’t what is best for you. You have to add positive voices in your head to negate these negative thoughts. Sometimes these thoughts can overtake you and you may even give up. That doesn’t mean that it is over however. You can still get back the motivation you need to succeed.

If worse comes to worse, you can always bribe yourself. That is one tip that people teach when learning how to motivate yourself. Just as a child is motivated by a treat to do something that they do not want to do, you can also give yourself something special after you have reached a certain goal. Motivation comes down to positive reinforcement, and if you know that something positive is going to come out of a goal that you achieve, then you will be more willing to use your inner motivation to reach that goal. It doesn’t matter how small or large, it just matters that you set a goal, know what your reward is going to be and then work on achieving it.

Your last tip on how to motivate yourself is to let others know what goal you are setting for yourself. This deals mostly with your pride, and that is something most people never want to lose. You will feel like a failure if you give up, not because you have failed yourself, but because you have to tell friends and family you have failed. That is often much harder then if you just did it alone. For example, if you are trying to quit smoking and you do not tell anyone you are trying, you are much more apt to continue on with it. If you told everyone you know instead, you would be embarrassed to be caught with a cigarette, giving you more motivation to stop smoking. With the right motivation anything is possible so don’t give up without trying to motivate yourself.
