How to Instill Motivation in Organizations

Motivation in organizations is extremely important. It is important both for the people that are leading the group, as well as the people that make up the group as a whole. For any organization, whether it is the swimming team in which you belong to or the Girl Scouts, with motivation a group can flounder around not knowing which direction they should be taken.

Motivation can be important in volunteer work that people do for free. If money is not a motivation then you have to be able to find something that can inspire them and motivate them to continue on with their work. Any organization has a need for motivation, and it is up to you as their leader to be able to find it.

One of major reasons for motivation in organizations is to reach a common goal. There is a reason that this organization got together, and you need to continue to remind everyone what that reason is. If you notice that attendance isn’t what it used to be or people are finding reasons to leave the organization it is up to you to instill that motivation back in the people that are left. Reflect on what you have already accomplished and take the time to plan out new goals that everyone wants to reach. Goals often serve as a motivation for everyone because they are looking towards what they can do together and that will keep them inspired to do it.

Often motivation in organizations comes from reward ceremonies or bonuses that people receive which can be unexpected and wonderful to receive. If people feel that they are appreciated, then they will often keep coming back and doing what they need to so that they can reach the goal of the organization. People love to feel valued, and it is often the main reason in which people continue to do something they love. The reward ceremonies do not have to be fancy or extravagant, just something small that can show the people that help out in these organizations that you appreciate and value them and that will give them the motivation in organizations that they need.

Finally, the most important aspect of instilling motivation in organizations is to have motivation yourself. If you as a leader are not motivated then it will be hard to motivate and inspire the members of your organization. You need to not only reaffirm your own goals and set new goals that everyone can reach but you need to have the passion that the organization is look for so that people trust and believe in you. You will see this enthusiasm carry over to everyone.
